On September 5, the 2022 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) "Green and Low-Carbon City International Forum for Science and Technology Innovation and Beijing International Frontier Science Dialogue" was successfully held at the National Convention Center. With the theme of “Promoting green development and creating a low-carbon future jointly", the forum was hosted by Beijing Academy of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as "BJAST or the Academy"). It was organized by the Resources and Environment Research Institute of BJAST and the Center for International and Regional Cooperation of the BJAST. Fang Li, secretary of the Party Group of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, and Huang Qirong, minister-counsellor (Environmental Officer) of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in China, addressed the forum. Wu Jianmin, deputy secretary of the Party Group and president of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, presided over the opening ceremony and keynote reports of the forum. Liu Qingjun, member of the Party Group and vice president of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, presided over the sessions of policy presentation and thematic reports. Guo Lugang, vice chairman of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Association"), presided over the session of thematic reports. More than 100 representatives from the government, universities, colleges, enterprises, technology service institutions, investment service institutions and other entities attended the forum. 

This forum lasted for one day. It invited an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, an academician of the National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Sciences of the United States to deliver keynote reports. Four guests gave policy presentations, and 8 industry experts and heads of enterprises delivered thematic reports, introduced technology and promoted technology application cases. They presented research outcomes and promoted exchanges and cooperation, while publishing insights, exchanging research views, which enlightened minds and inspired wisdom. The content involves many trending discussions such as green and low-carbon development, carbon neutrality and carbon peaks, green chemistry, smart cities, pollution control technologies, etc., focusing on sharing the innovative achievements of policies, technologies, and management of green and low-carbon industries at home and abroad. It aims to provide important opportunities of exchanges and cooperation for countries, institutions, and the personnel of technology and management. 

In Fang Li’s speech at the opening ceremony of the forum, he pointed out that achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality is an important practice purpose to implement Xi Jinping's thought of ecological civilization, an inherent requirement for China to achieve sustainable development and high-quality development, and an important symbol of implementing the new and building a new development pattern. As a comprehensive scientific research institution directly under the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, Beijing Academy of Science and Technology insists on implementing the innovation-driven development strategy, joining in the construction of the International Center for Science and Technology Innovation in Beijing, and serving the development of the capital city in the new era. In the future, Beijing Academy of Science and Technology will continue to strengthen the research and application of key technologies in common in the field of ecological environment, cooperate with the national key laboratories, high-level universities and colleges and leading enterprises in science and technology, carry out the research, popularization and application of green and low-carbon technologies, actively promote the construction of carbon neutral technology platform and industrial chain, and strengthen in-depth interdisciplinary collaborative innovation and integrated innovation cross fields, so as to form a number of low-carbon technology solutions with significant influence, and support Beijing to establish a more perfect green low-carbon science and technology innovation system. 

Highlight discussion on"Low carbon" 

Nie Zuoren, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Beijing University of Technology delivered the keynote report with the theme of "Theory and Practice of Life Cycle Engineering for Green and Low Carbon". Han Buxing, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and researcher of the Institute of Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered the keynote report with the theme "Green Chemistry and Sustainable Development”. Marilyn Ann Brown, academician of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, leader of the Nobel Prize team, and professor of Georgia Institute of Technology, delivered the keynote report with the theme of "Green and low-carbon electrification of future smart cities".

 Discussion on common concerns and cooperation 

 Liu Qingjun presided over the session of policy presentation. Liang Jingyuan, Level II inspector of the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau and the Office of the work leading groups of comprehensive open demonstration zone and free trade zone " , Haruko Yoneyama, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Kim Jongmoon, representative of the Korea Innovation Center (KIC) in China, and Zhang Chi, deputy general manager of Beijing China-Japan Innovation Cooperation Demonstration Zone, presented the policies from the aspects including policies on the work and construction of "comprehensive open demonstration zone and free trade zone", measures to promote China-Japan scientific and technological exchanges, the general situation of South Korea innovation centers in China, and the development of China-Japan Innovation Cooperation demonstration Zone, etc. 

Spreading research and teaching in depth 

Liu Qingjun presided over the first half of the thematic report. The following experts and scholars delivered a thematic report: Xi Beidou, vice president and research fellow of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Wang Zhi, professor of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Wang Zhaojia, deputy general manager and professor-level senior engineer of BBMG Corporation, and director of Beijing Urban Drainage Group Jiang Yong, deputy general manager and professor-level senior engineer. Four experts made thematic reports respectively on the technology of organic solid waste treatment, that of carbon dioxide separation membrane, and the concept development of green and low-carbon. 

Guo Lugang presided over the second half of the thematic reports. The following four experts made thematic reports: Zhang Zhongguo, secretary of the Party Committee, director, and researcher fellow of the Institute of Resources and Environment of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, Ren Haijing, deputy director and professor-level senior engineer of the Science and Technology and Industrialization Development Center of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and Liu Peng, deputy general manager and senior engineer of BCEG Environmental Remediation Co., Ltd. Yang Baocheng, and their themes are respectively on key technologies for industrial water saving, green and low-carbon development of urban water supply systems, low-carbon remediation models for industrial contaminated sites, and the industry of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) pollution control. 

Successful conclusion

The forum ended in a vibrant academic atmosphere. Wu Jianmin delivered an inspiring closing speech. He quoted the famous sentences of ancient Chinese poems and summarized the achievements of this forum as "four new": the first is as described in the Chinese poem"How can the pool be so clear and cool? For water fresh inflows from its source, the forum has brought new knowledge; the second is as "After endless mountains and rivers that leave doubt whether there is a path out, suddenly one encounters the shade of a willow, bright flowers of a lovely village.", the forum has brought new inspiration; the third is as "a crane flying high into the clear sky up the clouds, poetic feelings is brought to the blue sky", the forum has brought new vision; the fourth is as "a single flower’s blossom does not represent spring, and various flowers’ blossom makes the garden full of spring", the forum will bring new cooperation.
